SNN: Your music has always carried a strong emotional message. What do you hope people take away from your music today?
Emeli Sandé: I hope that the people resonate with the deep emotion of the music and that by the end of the show they feel a sense of reflection, joy, and passion.
SNN: You have performed for audiences all over the world. What makes performing live still special for you after so many years?
Emeli Sandé: Live music is the great adventure! Real physical connection with the audience, sharing a space, a piece of time for one collection of fleeting moments. To me this is such a unique and sacred experience I feel extremely fortunate to be able to be a part of and share with my phenomenal band.
Every performance is different and most likely the first and last time that specific group of people will be together. This exchange of energy and live creation is one of the most beautiful things we have left to bring us together and remind us of our shared humanity.
I love the spontaneity, the surprises, the differences in audiences and cultures and to share the joy of music with others is such a dream!
SNN: What inspires you most at this stage of your life and career—both as an artist and as a woman?
Emeli Sandé: I’m inspired mostly to try get to the truth of things quicker and hopefully find a way to express new understandings and experiences through music as well as I can. This inspires me to always be searching for new ways and tones within my music and also exploring life with more honesty and bravery.
SNN: Is there a song of yours that feels particularly personal to you right now, and why?
Emeli Sandé: I’d say the new songs I’ve been writing are resonating the most. Life and creation seem to be in a lovely synchronicity. I hope people will feel that when they listen.
SNN: Finally, what message would you like to share with your fans in Prague?
Emeli Sandé: That I’m very excited to come and perform, it’s an honour to be invited, thank you. After such a long time apart I truly hope our reunion will make up for lost time. I can’t wait to see you.
